More About the Show: Wildfire: Remnants and Recovery is an open call exhibition, bringing together artists of all media and victims of wildfire in Siskiyou County. The exhibit opens October 24th and closes November 22th. The show explores aspects of living in fire-country and how one copes with losing everything. Fire victims continually remember the things they lost with fresh pain and often feel forgotten after the initial flood of aid. The rebuilding process is many years long and involved, and of course the recovery from trauma much longer. This exhibition is a chance for victims to share their stories so we may honor those tragic experiences, create understanding and empathy and aid in healing and resilience. Award-winning artist/curators Amanda Thomas and Sharon Swingle, will create collective art pieces from victims’ stories as well as curate the open call for art about fire (due Oct. 1st). The show is inspired by the experiences told to Ms. Swingle in her past work as a Wildfire Crisis Counselor on the Slater Fire in Happy Camp, California
